About The Position

The Physical Education & Yoga Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging fitness and yoga instruction to high school students. This teacher promotes lifelong wellness, movement awareness, mindfulness, and safe driving skills, in alignment with district and Illinois State Board of Education standards.

Requirements

  • Valid State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsements for Physical Education, and Driver's Education; certification or deep experience in yoga instruction preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of physical education, yoga practices, assessment, and effective instruction for diverse learners.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a collegial, team-oriented environment.
  • Understanding of inclusive, adaptive PE and trauma-informed, accessible yoga for all skill levels.
  • Commitment to professional growth and incorporating innovative methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement curriculum and lessons for physical education, yoga, and driver's education in accordance with Illinois Learning Standards and district policies.
  • Assess student progress using a variety of tools and provide constructive feedback to enhance growth and wellness.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment embracing mindfulness, movement, and stress-reduction through yoga.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in a team setting to ensure program alignment and continuous improvement.
  • Utilize best practices, evidence-based instructional strategies, and adaptive PE principles as well as trauma-sensitive and inclusive yoga pedagogy.
  • Supervise students in all instructional settings, including classrooms, gymnasiums, outdoor spaces.
  • Integrate technology to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grading, and student progress as required by district procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student performance and classroom activities.
  • Attend department meetings, professional development, and parent engagement events as required.
  • Participate in required training (e.g., CPR/AED, mandated reporter, etc.) per district and state law.
  • Remain current with developments in physical education, yoga, and mindfulness pedagogy.
  • Support and encourage student involvement in co-curricular and athletic programs.

  • Placement and step on the licensed staff salary schedule will be determined by experience and qualifications per the CHSD 218/IEA Professional Agreement.

  • For coaching or co-curricular positions, additional paid stipends may be available under contract guidelines.
