About The Position

Massachusetts College of Art and Design is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, in the Photography Department beginning fall of 2025. MassArt is the oldest, and one of two public, state supported, independent colleges of art and design in the country. We are humbled by the responsibility of serving the public, and the broad demographic of students from across the Commonwealth, the region, the nation, and beyond. MassArt seeks to be a leader in increasing diversity within its curriculum and support programs, as well as in its faculty, staff, and student populations. As we aim to promote an inclusive environment, we seek candidates who can actively participate in our shared goals and encourage applicants to apply and to identify their strengths in this area. In this urgent time, MassArt prioritizes the teaching of sustainability in art and design and defines it as addressing and solving the problems at the intersection of social justice, health, equity and the environment. The MassArt Photography Department focuses on the medium as a means of artistic expression in teaching undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students. Our emphasis is on personal vision, experimentation, and an understanding of the history of photography and the body of criticism that surrounds it. Students are introduced to a wide variety of necessary tools and become well-versed in the medium's technical and aesthetic traditions, as well as in the contemporary directions of photography.
