About The Position

Jefferson RISE Charter School is a 6–12 public charter school in Jefferson Parish committed to providing students with a well-rounded, enriching education that prepares them for life beyond graduation. We are looking for a creative and mission-driven Electives Teacher who brings unique passions and talents into the classroom. Whether your expertise is in art, technology, film, foreign language, design, or another area entirely—we want to hear from you. This position is ideal for educators who see electives as powerful tools for engagement, self-expression, and real-world readiness. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Degree in content area (preferred).
  • Content area certification (preferred).
  • Technological proficiency in Google Drive (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High level of personal organization and planning.
  • Proven track record of student achievement and/or growth.

Responsibilities

  • Teach high-interest, standards-aligned photography courses focused on both technical skill and artistic expression.
  • Develop engaging lessons that connect photography concepts to real-world applications such as media, design, and storytelling.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse artistic and technical abilities of students.
  • Incorporate hands-on projects, digital editing tools, and portfolio-based assessments to showcase student growth.
  • Cultivate a studio environment that inspires creativity, experimentation, and confidence in visual expression.
  • Establish clear routines for equipment use, studio safety, and respectful critique practices.
  • Encourage student voice through independent projects, themed photo series, and public showcases of student work.
  • Maintain consistent classroom management aligned with school-wide expectations and studio procedures.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate photography into cross-curricular projects and school initiatives.
  • Participate in professional learning to enhance instructional practice and stay current with evolving photography and media trends.
  • Contribute to a positive school culture by modeling creativity, professionalism, and a commitment to student excellence.
  • Use rubrics, critiques, and portfolio reviews to monitor student progress and guide instruction.
  • Communicate regularly with students and families about artistic growth, project deadlines, and exhibition opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student portfolios in accordance with school policies.

Benefits

  • Paid twice a month on the 15th and last day of each month.
  • Coverage of 85% of medical premiums and 100% of dental, vision, short and long term disability premiums for full-time employees.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a match of up to 100% of contributions on the first 3% deferred, then 50% of contributions from 3% to 5%.
  • No vesting period.
