About The Position

The Photography Specialist, reporting to the Director, Social Media and Creative Services, is responsible for capturing, editing, and archiving images for the health system and assisting in producing multimedia content across Stony Brook Medicine. As such, they will produce multimedia content designed for cross-platform integration to support SBM's brand pillars and mission. This person will not only shoot and edit photos and video, but they must also have the ability to craft a narrative and tell a story. They will also support our video and multimedia specialist on studio and off-site video logistics as needed. The ideal applicant must have the ability to shoot video in various styles and settings, such as b-roll, sit-down interviews, live events, livestreams/podcasts, social-first videos, podcasts and more; in-studio and on locations; and operate a tricaster and other highly-advanced equipment for various productions. The ideal applicant must also have the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, ability to work on tight deadlines and fulfill last-minute video requests; and take the initiative to think of new video opportunities with strong storytelling abilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Five (5) or more years of full-time professionally shooting and editing photo and video for a business or organization.
  • Experience working with professional camera equipment and editing software (such as Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Premier Pro, etc.).
  • Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”).

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) or more years of full-time professionally shooting and editing photo and video for a business or organization.

Responsibilities

  • Shoot, edit, and archive photography across the health system, (both on and off site). This includes but is not limited to:
  • Events (covering events in real-time as needed (commencement, white coat ceremony, check presentations, patient discharges, tours, etc.)
  • Clinical, environmental, and podcast shoots.
  • Headshots/portraits.
  • Managements of a roster of freelancers.
  • Support video efforts and logistics in the studio and off-site at video shoots as needed. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Shooting and editing video across Stony Brook Medicine, ensuring customization and optimization (sizing/format, style, look, feel, length, etc.) on various mediums, including but not limited to social media, mobile, desktop, in-person events, etc.
  • Booking events and make-up.
  • Stay up-to-date on photo, video, and industry trends via research, conferences, networking, and vendor discussions.
  • Other Duties as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
