About The Position

The Photographer/Videographer serves as the University of Tampa’s primary in-house photographer and a key contributor to the university’s visual storytelling efforts. This role is responsible for producing high-quality, brand-aligned photography that advances UTampa’s enrollment, reputation, advancement, and institutional visibility goals across digital, print, and campaign channels. In addition to photography, the position brings strong video production capabilities to support integrated storytelling. Video skills are a significant asset—used to capture and edit short- and mid-form video content that complements photography and enhances digital engagement. Reporting to the Director of Creative & Brand Services, this position collaborates closely with editorial, digital, and social media partners to ensure UTampa’s visual identity is consistent, compelling, and authentic across platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Photography, Visual Communications, Media Production, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional photography experience, preferably in a marketing, agency, or higher-education environment.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in portrait, editorial, and event photography.
  • Advanced proficiency with DSLR and/or mirrorless camera systems, studio and on-location lighting, and professional photography equipment.
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including comfort working with senior leaders and directing subjects during shoots.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience capturing and editing short- and mid-form video content using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, or equivalent.
  • Experience preparing video content for web, digital campaigns, and social platforms.
  • Familiarity with digital asset management systems (e.g., Canto, PhotoShelter, Mediagraph).
  • Experience with accessibility best practices for visual and video content.
  • FAA Part 107 drone certification or willingness to pursue licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as UTampa’s lead institutional photographer, producing editorial- and campaign-quality imagery for the website, marketing campaigns, digital advertising, social media, institutional publications, and print materials.
  • Photograph a wide range of subjects, including students, faculty, academics, campus life, athletics, arts performances, donor and advancement events, and executive leadership.
  • Provide creative direction during photo shoots to ensure imagery is authentic, inclusive, and aligned with UTampa’s brand voice and visual identity.
  • Plan and execute complex photography assignments, including location scouting, lighting design, equipment setup, and coordination with campus stakeholders and leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Creative & Brand Services to maintain and evolve a recognizable university photography style as part of UTampa’s broader visual identity system.
  • Partner with the Editorial Director to supply high-quality photography for feature stories, the UTampa Journal, and other flagship storytelling initiatives.
  • Edit and retouch photographs for print, web, and social formats, ensuring technical quality, accessibility considerations, and brand compliance.
  • Manage photography assets within the university’s digital asset management system, including ingestion, tagging, archiving, retrieval, and usage tracking.
  • Provide photography coverage for high-visibility institutional events, including occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  • Capture and edit short- and mid-form video content that complements photography and supports institutional storytelling, campaigns, and digital initiatives.
  • Produce video assets such as event highlights, interviews, b-roll packages, and short features for use on the University website, digital campaigns, and priority social platforms.
  • Support video coverage of major campus events and initiatives, ensuring alignment with UTampa’s brand standards and visual identity.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Digital Strategy and Communications and Social Media Manager to ensure video assets are optimized for accessibility, distribution, and multi-channel reuse.
  • Edit video content to professional standards, including basic motion, audio cleanup, captioning, and formatting for different platforms.
  • Work closely with creative, editorial, digital, and social media teams to support integrated storytelling and campaign execution.
  • Maintain university-issued photography and video equipment and recommend upgrades or enhancements as needed.
  • Stay current on trends in higher education photography, visual storytelling, and evolving video formats and technologies.
