Selects from a range of standard photographic equipment for assignments demanding exact renditions, normally without opportunity for later retakes, when there are specific problems or uncertainties concerning lighting, exposure time, color, artistry, etc. Job tasks require this worker to discuss technical requirements with operating officials or supervisor and customize treatment for each situation according to a detailed request, vary camera processes and techniques, and use the setting and background to produce aesthetics, as well as accurate and informative pictures. Typically, standard equipment (DSLR and mirrorless cameras, lenses, exposure meters, speedlights, etc) is used at this level, although "specialized" photography can be performed using some special-purpose equipment under closer supervision. In typical assignments, the Photographer III photographs: (1) ceremonial events requiring lighting setups to produce photo-journalistic imagery for documentation, historic, and newsworthy public release purposes; (2) drawings, charts, maps, textiles, etc., requiring accurate computation of reduction ratios and exposure times and precise equipment adjustments; (3) official military portraits under controlled 4-light lighting setups to produce 3:1 lighting ratios for standard portraits while using pose directing techniques for accurate rendition of subject likeness; (4) location (breaking news, sports, military training, and material deficiency report) assignments. Work involves using pertinent journalism information gathering techniques for caption writing and submission to DoD image distribution service (DVIDS), social media and operational outlets; (5) existing facilities and structures specific to U.S. Space Force missions and activities for informational and historic records. Some additional video teleconferencing and graphics services will also be required and in-house training in these tasks will be provided. This person works independently and collaborates with a small team of highly trained photographers.
