About The Position

Provides Direct Support To: JB Pearl Harbor DUTY HOURS Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break. Lunch breaks will not be taken at the beginning or end of the duty day and will be coordinated within the assigned clinic/work center. QUALIFICATIONS Education: Completion of an approved college-based phlebotomy certification program Certification must be obtained through a recognized organization such as AMT, ASCP, or ASPT Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred, if applicable) Experience: Minimum of 40 hours classroom training 100 hours of clinical training At least 100 successful venipunctures (including skin punctures) Additional Requirements: Two letters of recommendation from previous employers At least one must be from a practicing Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician Letters must include name, title, contact information, date, and signature Must be dated within the last 5 years JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties include, but are not limited to: Answer phones, schedule laboratory appointments, file records, and perform general administrative duties Serve as front desk receptionist by greeting patients, providing guidance, and directing inquiries appropriately Schedule specialized lab testing (e.g., glucose tolerance tests) and provide patient preparation instructions Maintain statistical and quality assurance records related to laboratory performance Update and verify patient information in MHS GENESIS Assist in training staff on phlebotomy and specimen collection procedures Participate in quality improvement initiatives and required meetings Follow infection control guidelines and universal precautions CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES Perform venipuncture and capillary collections on a wide range of patients, including difficult draws Follow established procedures for specimen collection, labeling, and handling Use phlebotomy equipment such as syringes, butterfly needles, and vacutainer systems Conduct glucose and lactose tolerance testing with accurate timing and documentation Ensure proper patient identification and specimen labeling Communicate test procedures clearly to patients Identify and report discrepancies in patient or specimen data ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain cleanliness, stock supplies, and assist with closing duties Handle biohazard materials in accordance with safety regulations Follow all laboratory safety and emergency procedures Complete required training, including MHS GENESIS and other government systems Collaborate with staff to ensure efficient laboratory operations Ensure compliance with CAP (College of American Pathologists) and TJC (The Joint Commission) standards WORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS Adhere to all military treatment facility (MTF) policies and procedures Maintain professionalism and effective communication across departments Support a safe and secure clinical environment Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break Full-time, 40 hours per week
