About The Position

The Phlebotomy Technician at CSL Plasma is responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors. This role involves performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process, and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure donor safety and product quality. The technician will also educate donors about the donation process and maintain accurate records of donor data.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, monitoring, and disconnect.
  • Conduct venipuncture on donors to initiate the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
  • Evaluate vein performance and make necessary corrections to expedite donation time and ensure quality and safety.
  • Educate new donors on therapeutic products and the donation process, answering questions accurately and professionally.
  • Monitor donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff as needed.
  • Record incidents during the pheresis process using a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
  • Perform equipment calibrations and maintenance as outlined in SOPs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and document incidents appropriately.
  • Monitor donor flow to ensure continuous turnover and alert supervisors of any issues.
  • Collect samples from donors for testing and ensure accurate data recording in the electronic system.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies are available.
  • Follow all health and safety policies and promote safety in all actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel and donor information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas as needed.
