The Phlebotomy Technician position is part-time, working 20 hours per week on the night shift, with hours between 11:00 pm and 7:30 am, Monday through Friday, including every other weekend and holiday, and an on-call rotation. The role involves an 8-week full-time training on the night shift.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Phlebotomist.
  • Experience in a health care setting.
  • Customer care experience.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture blood collection according to laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Optimize patient care by providing timely and accurate collection of blood specimens on both pediatric and adult patients.
  • Maintain patient safety by accurately identifying patients and associating the collected sample with the patient.
  • Follow all proper organizational Infection Control procedures and isolation protocols.
  • Use technology such as computer applications to organize and facilitate efficient patient care.
  • Work continually within multidisciplinary teams, including response to code situations.
  • Perform blood collection in environments of extreme stress and difficult emotional situations.
  • Navigate and mitigate work within a hazardous environment utilizing critical thinking and situational awareness.
  • Carry out lab testing at the bedside with point of care testing devices.
  • Facilitate on-boarding of new staff.
  • Participate in activities for maintenance of CAP and ISO15189 accreditation.
  • Serve as point person by assuming departmental roles pertaining to Safety, Charge, Materials Management.
  • Identify specimens and accurately match identification parameters.
  • Competently process specimens within specified lab area.
  • Perform clerical functions such as answering the phone, checking physician orders on requisitions and document filing.
  • Enter specimen information and related data into laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Identify and resolve problems within area of expertise.
  • Operate instrumentation appropriate to specified lab area.
