Department: 60915 Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center - Lab: Phlebotomy Services Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 36 Schedule Details/Additional Information: Thursday, Friday and Saturday 7pm-7:30am Pay Range $19.45 - $29.20 Position Highlights: Shift Schedule: Nights, Thursday-Saturday, 7pm-7:30am (3 12hr shifts) Department: Phlebotomy Services Location: Winston Salem campus EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or equivalent. Two-years of age-appropriate phlebotomy experience preferred. CPR Certification. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: ASCP, AMT, ASPT or equivalent certification from an accredited Phlebotomy training program that includes successful completion of a certification exam with passing scores. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Adheres to the general Medical Center standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building. Assures accurate and timely collection of blood specimens, according to departmental practices. Assures accurate identification and delivery of patient samples to appropriate lab sections. Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of phlebotomy by serving as a willing resource to staff and applying knowledge in daily routines. Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education. Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department. Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approval policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases. Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing. Provides age-appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults. Maintains inventory and supplies related to job activities and monitors expiration dates. Performs clerical functions including entry of lab orders into the LIS, printing and delivery of reports, filing reports, preparing requisitions, and obtaining information or entering information into the laboratory or hospital computer system. Performs specimen processing in accordance with laboratory policies. May perform waived testing. May be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to listen and communicate effectively. Ability to work cooperatively. Excellent customer service skills. Basic computer skills. May require working any shift within the operation hours of the department and could include weekends and Holidays. Discernment and judgement. Attention to detail. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens or patients. Exposed to risk of bloodborne/airborne disease. Must wear protective equipment (gloves, gowns/lab coats, eye protection, face protection). May be exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens. Moderate noise environment. Subject to injury from sharps. May require judgment/action which could result in death of patient. Subject to many interruptions. Subject to stressful situations. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
