About The Position

The Phlebotomist/Laboratory Technician II is responsible for greeting patients, processing paperwork and specimens, and logging all tests into the computer. This role involves performing various blood collection techniques on patients of all ages, ensuring compliance with safety and HIPAA protocols, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The technician also performs clerical duties and provides professional customer service during patient interactions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred (ASCP, ASPT).
  • Phlebotomy certificate preferred (graduate of a phlebotomy training program or schooling).
  • Two years experience as a phlebotomist.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients arriving in the phlebotomy laboratory.
  • Process paperwork and specimens, logging all tests into the computer.
  • Perform heelsticks, fingersticks, and venipunctures on patients of all ages.
  • Demonstrate professional customer service skills during interactions with customers.
  • Perform receptionist and clerical duties, including answering phones appropriately.
  • Access EPIC and Sunquest systems to log tests and print results while following HIPAA protocols.
  • Prepare the blood drawing area, maintaining an appropriate inventory of supplies and cleanliness.
  • Generate and affix barcode labels to specimens after collection in the presence of the patient.
  • Process specimens for testing, including accessioning and manual log-in procedures.
  • Ensure priority samples are processed first and maintain correct paperwork and procedures.
  • Centrifuge specimens according to established procedures and aliquot samples as needed.
  • Maintain a safe work area and adhere to safety, infection control, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Rotate to all ambulatory labs, including offsite locations and inpatient phlebotomy when needed.
