About The Position

The Phlebotomy Apprenticeship at Lexington Medical Center prepares students for employment as phlebotomists in various healthcare settings. This program combines theoretical knowledge with clinical experience, equipping apprentices with the skills necessary to collect blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis. Upon completion, graduates will be eligible to take the national certification exam for phlebotomy technicians.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills and aptitude.
  • Willingness to learn proper techniques for patient identification and sample processing.
  • Ability to perform blood draws as both collector and donor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting (not mandatory).

Responsibilities

  • Attend 45 hours of lectures and complete 100 hours of clinical rotations.
  • Perform a minimum of 100 successful unaided venipuncture blood collections and 10 dermal punctures.
  • Learn and apply proper patient identification and specimen collection techniques.
  • Understand and implement infection control procedures relevant to phlebotomy.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and staff, maintaining professionalism and courtesy.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures as required by regulatory bodies.
