About The Position

The Phlebotomy Apprenticeship at Lexington Medical Center prepares students for employment as phlebotomists in various healthcare settings. This program combines theoretical knowledge with clinical experiences, equipping apprentices with the skills necessary to collect blood and other specimens for laboratory analysis. Upon completion, graduates will be eligible for national certification as phlebotomy technicians.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Basic computer skills and aptitude.
• Willingness to learn proper techniques for patient identification and sample processing.
• Willingness to learn blood sample collection techniques from patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Attend 45 hours of lectures and complete 100 hours of clinical rotations.
• Achieve a minimum of 100 successful unaided venipuncture blood collections and 10 dermal punctures.
• Complete all written and clinical practical exams successfully.
• Attempt certification test through the American Society of Clinical Pathology within three months of completing the apprenticeship.
• Comply with all standard safety policies and procedures required by relevant regulatory bodies.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
