About The Position

We are hiring at Starling Physicians, a VillageMD company! The position involves using appropriate aseptic techniques to draw blood cultures, processing Stat specimens according to Starling Physicians SOP, and preparing collection containers with appropriate preservatives for patients. The role also includes properly measuring and recording a volume for a 24-hr collection, administering and collecting a H. pylori Breath test, and handling orders on minors. Additionally, the phlebotomist will monitor inventory levels, delete/cancel orders as necessary, recall patients for follow-up procedures, and utilize LIS for job duties. The position requires adapting work schedules to meet emergency staffing needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of phlebotomy experience required.
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification through the National Health Career Association (NHA) preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA guidelines, and laboratory requirements.
  • Skills in phlebotomy techniques with adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients.
  • Computer/data entry skills and phone etiquette.
  • Attention to detail and ability to critically think.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain accuracy during interruptions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Drug screen collection experience preferred.
  • CLA Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures.
  • Processes Stat specimens according to Starling Physicians SOP.
  • Prepares collection containers with appropriate preservatives for patients.
  • Properly measures and records a volume for a 24-hr collection.
  • Properly collects a COC Urine Drug Screen.
  • Properly administers and collects a H. pylori Breath test.
  • Properly handles orders on minors.
  • Completes paperwork and labeling of specimens for OVH Blood Bank specimens.
  • Processes satellite specimens and delivers them to the appropriate department.
  • Monitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for replenishing supplies.
  • Deletes/cancels orders as necessary with full documentation.
  • Recalls patients for follow-up procedures or error correction.
  • Utilizes LIS for all applicable functions to perform job duties.
  • Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs.
  • Properly checks-in a patient in a satellite lab.
  • Processes lab and office collected specimens for transport.
  • Contacts a courier for a Stat pickup.
  • Performs, logs, and enters results for Rapid Strep and Hemoccult tests.
  • Trains new staff in proper lab policies and procedures.
