Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of phlebotomy and Medical Terminology.
  • Completion of an approved phlebotomy certification program, or equivalent experience acquired through on-the-job training.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills required. Ability to solve problems and work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in phlebotomy preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Interact courteously and professionally with laboratory customers; respond to requests promptly.
  • Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick, following patient identification procedures.
  • Instruct patients on specimen collection procedures, including non-blood samples as needed.
  • Demonstrate dependability and reliability, prioritizing tasks to meet departmental needs.
  • Collect and transport specimens, adhering to safety procedures.
  • Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies, including quality control, safety, and hygiene protocols, this includes appropriate PPE.
  • Perform related clerical duties, entering accurate demographic and test information create tracking logs into systems.
  • If applicable, perform testing.
  • Train and orient new employees and students as required.
  • Notify technical staff and supervisors of any unusual or problematic incidents. Monitor and maintain supplies, using materials efficiently to control costs.
  • Participate in continuing education for phlebotomy to ensure the latest techniques and safety protocols are followed. Maintain confidentiality according to healthcare laws and regulations.
