About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to provide phlebotomy services to patients of all ages. This role includes performing venipunctures and finger sticks, processing medical laboratory tests, and documenting results for the diagnosis and prevention of disease while adhering to the regulatory requirements of CLIA and COLA. Additionally, this position will operate and maintain designated moderately complex lab equipment. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Performing controls on CLIA waived tests Perform controls and required maintenance on designated moderately complex lab equipment Cleaning and stocking specimen collection areas Monitoring lab schedule for appointment arrivals and escorting patients to the lab Practice proper patient identification Collecting specimens from patients Reviewing orders for accuracy Reviewing specimen processing instructions for accuracy Requisitioning and processing samples, including centrifuging and any special processing instructions Preparing samples for pick-up from reference lab(s) Preparing samples for point of care testing Prepare and process samples for moderately complex testing Documenting point of care results timely and per policy Escalating abnormal and critical results per policy Practice infection prevention control standards at all times Monitor and respond to EHR messaging, and voicemails timely Serve as preceptor for phlebotomy students or clinical staff Actively embraces and supports divisional and organizational initiatives Supports other MAHEC labs as needed Serves as a back-up for clinical team members as needed This role description is a general description of the essential job functions. This also includes keeping up with your licensure and yearly training requirements within your area expertise along with MAHECs (yearly?) organizational training. Finally, the ability to apply the depth of knowledge maintained and gained through this process in real life scenarios as appropriate. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited phlebotomist program preferred
  • 3-5 years of phlebotomy experience in an ambulatory setting with patients of all ages
  • Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, and tests
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory safety and infections control policies
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory equipment
  • High School Diploma
  • Current CPR certification
  • Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position.

  • Ability to speak Spanish strongly preferred.
