Requirements

  • Applicants should hold a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed an approved nationally accredited training course or program in Phlebotomy (required qualifications).
  • Certification from ASCP or NHA is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and processes blood specimens for testing in the laboratory.
  • Fills in as needed in the department.
  • Functions as one of the department's primary contacts with patients.
  • Assists with clerical duties.
  • Performs phlebotomies.
  • Performs laboratory Information System functions.
  • Maintains a clean work area and proper stock on supplies.
  • Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately to patients, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Performs clerical duties.
