Phlebotomist
About The Position
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood collection activities for the purpose of health assessment in the Pathology department at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center; Miller Children's and Women's Hospital. The Phlebotomist also performs all activities, pre-analytic functions, and data management under the direction of a California Licensed Supervisor as defined in Chapter 3 of State of California Business and Professions Code. Provides customer service communication via phone and face to face. Ensures that equipment and safety devices are used appropriately following set guidelines. Performs venipuncture, heel stick and finger stick specimen collection activities from pediatrics, neonatal, and adult population following appropriate procedure and protocol for health assessment.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred
- Current certification as a Phlebotomist Technician by the State of California
- 2+ years of previous experience performing venipuncture on hospital based patient populations is preferred.
- Knowledge of specimen collection techniques, equipment and specimen handling is required
