This Phlebotomist position at Hickman Hospital, within the Laboratory Department, involves performing routine and special blood specimen collection for patients of all ages. Key responsibilities include collecting specimens for basic procedures, potentially performing point-of-care testing using proper techniques, and assisting patients before, during, and after specimen collection. The role requires adherence to strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis, knowledge of pre-analytic variables that may affect specimen analysis, and familiarity with test synonyms and abbreviations. The Phlebotomist will utilize the laboratory computer information system, contribute to quality assurance by recommending procedural changes for customer/patient satisfaction, and maintain established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies, personal professional development, and assisting in the training of new associates or students are also part of the role.
