Requirements

• One year experience as a hospital laboratory phlebotomist OR graduate of an approved phlebotomy training course

Responsibilities

• Obtain blood specimens from patients
• Be proficient in venipuncture and capillary puncture
• Follow laboratory policy on proper identification of patients and handling of obtained specimen
• Provide care to patients of all ages, from neonates to geriatrics
• Be willing to cross train to other job descriptions and float to other departments to meet facility needs
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of stroke and call a stroke alert overhead
• Verbalize stroke alert process
• Draw blood for stroke panel and deliver specimens to laboratory on stroke alert patients
• Maintain currency in stroke knowledge by completing annual 1-hour online training
