About The Position

Join UPMC Carlisle as a Full-Time Phlebotomist! UPMC Carlisle is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our patient-focused team. This Full-Time role will work daylight shifts including rotating weekends and holidays. In this role, you'll be responsible for accurate phlebotomy and specimen collection for inpatients and outpatients, supporting vital laboratory testing that directly impacts patient care. You may also assist with computer, courier, and clerical tasks essential to lab operations, all under the guidance of our Medical Technologists. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy is preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide courteous, professional interaction with all lab customers and respond promptly to inquiries.
  • Collect blood and other specimens using venipuncture, heelstick, fingerstick, or patient-guided collection.
  • Follow proper patient identification procedures and ensure sample accuracy.
  • Transport specimens safely from on- and off-site collection areas to the lab.
  • Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies, including safety, quality control, and infection prevention.
  • Perform clerical tasks: enter patient data, manage test orders, and ensure accurate sample tracking.
  • Train and orient new staff, students, and residents as assigned.
  • Notify technical staff or supervisors of unusual or problematic incidents.
  • Perform arterial punctures when required, following strict protocols.
  • Maintain and monitor supplies, using materials efficiently and cost-effectively.
