About The Position

The Phlebotomist plays a critical role in the healthcare system by expertly collecting blood and other specimens from patients for diagnostic testing, transfusions, research, or blood donations. Ultimately, the Phlebotomist contributes to timely and accurate medical diagnoses and treatments by providing reliable specimen collection services across various healthcare settings in the United States.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (e.g., CPT, PBT) from a recognized certifying body preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and blood collection techniques.
  • Knowledge of specimen processing and handling procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting.
  • Additional certification in basic life support (BLS) or CPR.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience in patient-facing roles.
  • Knowledge of plasma processing techniques and advanced specimen handling.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients of all ages following established protocols.
  • Prepare and label specimens accurately to ensure proper identification and tracking throughout the testing process.
  • Process specimens, including plasma processing techniques, and ensure timely delivery to the laboratory for analysis.
  • Maintain patient records and document vital signs as required during specimen collection procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to protect patients and staff.
  • Provide compassionate patient care by explaining procedures clearly and addressing any patient concerns or discomfort.
  • Operate and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness and cleanliness at all times.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate specimen collection schedules and support clinical workflows.
