Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Arlington has a great opportunity for a full-time experienced Phlebotomist. Role Overview The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting, processing, and handling blood and other laboratory specimens for patients receiving inpatient behavioral health services.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
  • Phlebotomy certification is required
  • Minimum one (1) of phlebotomy experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a psychiatric, behavioral health, or hospital setting strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange daily activities based on urgency of request for fluid samples/specimen.
  • Perform venipuncture blood collection in accordance with hospital protocols and Texas regulations.
  • Properly label, document, process, and deliver or send specimens to laboratory by arranging transportation.
  • Verify patient identity and ensure accurate order matching prior to specimen collection.
  • Maintain infection control and safety standards, including proper disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions during and after blood draws.
  • Maintain accurate medical record documentation.
  • Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health, etc.
  • De-escalate anxiety to help the patient relax.
  • Find veins that are suitable for puncture.
  • Draw blood using sterilized needles, vials, and other equipment.
  • Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples.
  • Answer patient questions and provide useful information.
  • Keep accurate records on fluid specimens and tests.
  • Ability to connect with various types of patients (such as pediatrics, adolescents and adults) and make them feel comfortable.
  • Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
