About The Position

Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) is a nationally-recognized network of physicians, services and healthcare resources based in Johnson County, Indiana, with its hospital located in Franklin, Indiana. This position involves performing specimen collection procedures, including venipuncture or skin puncture, and following laboratory protocols for specimen handling, containers, transport, and patient preparation. The role also includes routine clerical work such as charging, crediting, and canceling test procedures via computer system, assisting with registration and order entry for phlebotomy specimens, and processing requisitions for reports. The Phlebotomist will provide customer service by answering phones, responding to front desk needs, relaying calls, and providing guidance related to laboratory procedures and operations. They will work with JMH computer systems for orders and requisitions from multiple referral sources, coordinating them according to time and location. The role also emphasizes promoting positive relations with co-workers and supporting the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health, while complying with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and policies, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Nice To Haves

Course work in Phlebotomy preferred
Minimum of one year of experience preferred
Experience with office equipment and medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

Performs specimen collection procedures, including venipuncture or skin puncture.
Follows laboratory protocols for specimen handling, containers, transport, and patient preparation.
Verifies information regarding test requested and patient identification according to laboratory protocol.
Assists with routine clerical work including the following: charging, crediting, and canceling of test procedures via computer system in a timely manner.
Assists with registration and order entry for all patient phlebotomy specimens received in the laboratory, following laboratory protocol.
Processes requisitions for disposition of reports to lab files, physician offices, home health Agencies, and other appropriate locations.
Provides appropriate services to meet the needs of the department’s customer as requested including, but not limited to, the provision of accurate and timely information.
Receives information for the laboratory department by answering phones and responding to front desk needs.
Relays calls to various laboratory sections and/or management.
Responsive to all requests from department’s customers.
Works with the Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) computer system(s), printers, scanners, etc. for orders/requisitions from multiple referral sources.
Coordinates orders/requisitions according to the time requested and location, following all laboratory procedures.
Provides guidance for customers as it relates to laboratory procedures and operations.
Trouble shoots and provides timely and effective customer service; notifies supervisor of customer service issues.
Promotes positive relations with co-workers by: using positive communication methods, and striving to improve the image of JMH and demonstrating a commitment to customer service and continuous quality improvement.
Provides technical guidance for employees and customers as it relates to laboratory procedures and operations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
