Phlebotomist – Emergency Department Follows established procedures for lab tests including tests with special collection requirements (lactic acid, ammonia, ETOH, etc). Follows policy for drawing patients with IVs Collaborates with laboratory for unusual send out lab test collection procedures. Properly identifies specimens and accurately documents specimen collection times using PPID/PAID Understands and follows procedures to care for patients who experience adverse reactions from phlebotomy. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Manager or Director within scope Essential Job Duties: Ability to complete the duties and responsibilities of this position accurately and efficiently regardless of the pressures of the environment. Sufficient technical knowledge and skills to support the needs of the organization. Verbal and written communication skills to support the efficient and effective transfer of data/information. In order to demonstrate competency in serving acute care, and critical care patients, the employee must demonstrate the skills/knowledge/resources of laboratory services population specific learning module.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory preferred
  • High School Graduate/equivalent
  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification from the State of California required
  • Current BLS (AHA) required
