JOB DUTIES: 1. Performs venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks in such a manner as to obtain optimum blood specimens at a minimum of patient inconvenience. 2. Monitors worklist for assigned floors and ensures specimens are collected in a timely manner; prioritizes workload appropriately. 3. Prior to collection of all specimens, identifies patient per WRHS policy using patient’s full name and date of birth. Uses bedside armband barcode scanning system as appropriate. 4. Print specimen labels, and in the presence of the patient, labels specimens with patient’s full name, date of birth, date, time, and employee number of the phlebotomist. 5. Make notation on comment line of order in computer of any information necessary for the person performing the test or the ordering provider. 6. Prints uncollected reports from LIS to ensure all collected samples have been received in the lab. 7. Processes specimens by centrifugation as needed; uses judgement in assessing specimen suitability. 8. Performs iStat ACT patient testing and Quality Control as required 9. Enters data into the LIS, including collection data, cancelation of tests, and comments as appropriate. 10. Enters physician’s orders into LIS, including any comments such as fax or call comments. 11. Demonstrates initiative and makes good decisions in situations not covered by policies. 12. Accepts and delivers constructive criticism in a positive manner. 13. Maintains a clean and organized work environment; cleans up after themselves in the patient rooms and phlebotomy area. 14. Assists phlebotomy supervisor in training of employees as appropriate. 15. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor/director.
