About The Position

The position is located at the Arkansas Health Center in Benton, Arkansas, which is a long-term care nursing home facility for elderly residents with behavior issues. The Laboratory Technician works under direct supervisor of the Infection Control Nurse. Performs lab duties, obtains logs, verify specimens for accurate documentation, processes & delivers specimens, process and delivers paperwork/reports, etc. This position also assists in the facility dental office. This position requires proficiency in venipuncture, specimen handling, and laboratory safety practices. The Phlebotomist will work under the supervision of laboratory or healthcare supervisors to provide safe and efficient blood collection services.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in performing venipuncture, capillary puncture, and other specimen collection methods with accuracy and care.
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures and requirements for various specimens to ensure proper collection, handling, and transportation.
  • In-depth understanding of infection control protocols, including bloodborne pathogen safety and safe disposal of medical waste.
  • A high school diploma
  • Must hold a current and valid certification as a phlebotomist from a recognized certifying organization.
  • Must be licensed or authorized to practice phlebotomy in the state of Arkansas, as required by the Arkansas Department of Health or other relevant state authority.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures, capillary draws, and other specimen collection procedures as prescribed by physicians or healthcare providers.
  • Ensure proper identification of patients and correct labeling of specimens to maintain accuracy in the testing process.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding the procedure, and address any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including proper hand hygiene, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the safe disposal of needles and other biohazardous materials.
  • Assist in the coordination and tracking of specimens to ensure timely delivery to the laboratory and accurate testing results.
  • Ensure the proper sterilization and disposal of phlebotomy tools and equipment after each use to maintain infection control standards.
