A Brief Overview The Phlebotomist will obtain and prepare specimens for analysis and perform various screening tests.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or relevant experience/education needed to obtain certification Required
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification - American Medical Certification Association Required or Phlebotomy Technician - American Society for Clinical Pathology Required or National Certified Phlebotomy Technician - National Center for Competency Testing Required or Registered Phlebotomy Technician - American Medical Technologist Required or Certified Phlebotomy Technician - National Healthcareer Association Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire. Recertification every two years is Required

Responsibilities

  • Performs order entry and medical necessity screening for Medicare patients.
  • Performs specimen collection, including venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection, and culture receipt.
  • Accessions specimens.
  • Demonstrates proper infection control.
  • Demonstrates proper patient identification.
  • Performs proper and prompt specimen transport.
  • Performs proper drug screen collection and processing.
  • Performs EKGs and may perform CLIA waived and moderately complex testing if assigned.
  • Answers lab phones and responds to questions.
  • Actively participates in lab process improvement project.
