About The Position

ONLY PERMANENT EMPLOYEES IN THE TITLE AND THOSE THAT ARE REACHABLE ON THE LABORATORY ASSOCIATE CIVIL SERVICE LIST ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. Division/Program Summary: The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) mission is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. BPHC provides direct clinic services to people seeking health care; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to service providers and community groups; conduct research; and develops policies and programs to deliver high quality clinical care which best serve New Yorkers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent and:
  • One year of appropriate full-time experience or training in a biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory; or
  • Eight credits, including laboratory coursework, in biology, chemistry, or medical technology, from an accredited college or university; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of (1) and (2) above.
  • However all candidates must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report quality Control testing on a weekly basis in the blood room for rapid (INSTI) HIV in accordance with the policy and procedures (SOPM).
  • Perform and report quality Control testing on a weekly basis for all reagents in the blood room for rapid (INSTI) HIV in accordance with the policy and procedures (SOPM).
  • Monitor temperature for refrigerators and GC incubator.
  • Inform patients of the purpose and type of testing; ensuring specimens are obtained in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ensure specimens are stored safely and preserved in a designated area in accordance with the Bureau's policy and procedures.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and properly equip with supplies needed.
