About The Position

The Phlebotomist at Medical City Fort Worth plays a crucial role in patient care by performing phlebotomy procedures to obtain specimens for laboratory testing. This position involves direct interaction with patients, ensuring proper specimen collection methods, and handling clerical duties related to specimen processing. The Phlebotomist reports to the Lead Phlebotomist, Lab Manager, and Laboratory Director, contributing to the overall success of the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • HR diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience required or Certification through a clinical phlebotomy program may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Acute care hospital experience is strongly preferred.
  • Skilled phlebotomy technique; BLS within 30 days of hire.

  • Experience in a Magnet Designated hospital

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and instruct them in proper specimen collection methods.
  • Draw blood specimens from patients using finger sticks, heel sticks, or venipunctures and collect other specimens as required.
  • Label specimens for identification purposes accurately and enter specimen data into the computer.
  • Prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments.
  • Assist with clerical duties by answering telephone calls.
