About The Position

Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomist to work on Saturdays and Sundays from 4am to 8am. The role involves serving patients by identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens, preparing specimens for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for verifying test requisitions, patient identification, and explaining sampling procedures to patients. Additionally, the position requires maintaining specimen integrity, tracking collected specimens, and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to standards and regulations. The Phlebotomist will also reassure patients who may be nervous about sampling procedures and maintain an organized workspace.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Phlebotomist certification
  • First aid certification
  • Prior experience as a phlebotomist technician is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Identifying the best method for retrieving blood samples and other specimens.
  • Preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening procedures.
  • Verifying test requisitions by comparing information with nursing station log.
  • Bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.
  • Verifying patient identification and explaining sampling procedures to patients.
  • Obtaining blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
  • Maintaining specimen integrity by using aseptic technique and following department procedures.
  • Tracking collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection.
  • Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Adhering to professional standards, institutional policies, and legal regulations.
  • Reassuring patients who are nervous about sampling procedures and applying dressings to wounds.
  • Maintaining an organized and clean workspace.
