About The Position

This role will provide current phlebotomy trainees with the opportunity to learn the phlebotomy field. Trainees will attend lectures in a classroom setting and complete a clinical rotation in a Patient Service Center.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently may be required based on service location.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.
  • A valid driver’s license from the state that the employee resides as well as a clean driving record.
  • Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR Certification encouraged but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Performs venipunctures.
  • Collects other specimens and explains the proper collection procedures for specimens provided by the patient.
  • Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements when appropriate.
  • Learns to make accurate, initial assessment of specimen suitability according to criteria outlined in the Laboratory Handbook and department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Processes, stores and transports specimens according to the Laboratory Handbook and SOPs.
  • Works under direct supervision and performs general duties as assigned by the designated department.
  • Performs all paperwork, technical, and non-technical procedures required to process and submit specimens.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes in specimen requirements and collection devices.
