About The Position

Cary Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist / Specimen Processor to join our Laboratory team. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting biological specimens to support laboratory procedures and assisting technologists with sample processing. The ideal candidate will provide patient-centered, compassionate care while ensuring accuracy and professionalism in all aspects of specimen collection and handling. Requirements

  • Phlebotomy Certification required
  • CPR and basic first aid recommended
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED preferred

Responsibilities

  • Consistently obtains optimal quality specimens from inpatients and outpatients.
  • Responds promptly to computer orders and telephone requests.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient and answers questions appropriately.
  • Orders the correct tests as indicated on the Medical Provider’s requisition.
  • Responds promptly to STAT and URGENT requests.
  • Completes draw with one needle stick to obtain sufficient quantity of specimen greater than 95% of the time.
  • Collects specimens other than blood samples, such as nasal and nasopharyngeal swabs, for testing.
