About The Position

Physicians’ Primary Care of Southwest Florida is a premier multi-specialty practice with locations in Cape Coral, Estero, Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres. We are currently seeking a full-time Phlebotomist / Processor for our Laboratory division. We are currently seeking a full-time Phlebotomist / Processor for our Laboratory division. Our Phlebotomist / Processor prepares phlebotomy supplies to efficiently collect patient blood samples. Our Phlebotomist / Processor prepares phlebotomy supplies to efficiently collect patient blood samples. Performs venipuncture, and capillary punctures on patients. Collects blood or other body fluids in the correct container or tube according to the requirements set forth by COLA. Identifies and labels specimens correctly. Accessions, orders, and routes specimens appropriately to technologists and/or reference labs. Prepares specimens for testing according to the requirements of the technologists and/or reference labs. Enters laboratory data into the various computer systems, including: Allscripts Patient Manager, Allscripts EHR, and Orchard Harvest. Conveys specimen requirements to phlebotomists for proper collection. Communicates specimen discrepancies to appropriate personnel for recollection. Reports lab results to outside physicians via fax. Attends required department meetings and participates in committees as requested. Enhance professional growth and development through in-service meetings and education programs. I Maintains patient confidentiality and professional conduct in the presence of our customers. Maintain compliance with OSHA and CLIA standards and any other regulations or guidelines for the clinical setting. Maintains patient confidentiality and protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with HIPAA. Bilingual staff may be called upon to interpret if needed provided the employee speaks the needed language and is available to interpret.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine blood, urine, sputum, stool and other tests.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff.
  • Skill in labeling and maintaining all materials for specimen collection.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and medical staff.
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to follow written protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing or verbally.
  • Able to effectively communicate through the telephone system and take appropriate messages or transfer calls.
