About The Position

The primary purpose of the Pediatric Clinic Phlebotomist position is to provide and coordinate all tasks associated with patient services within an ambulatory setting; including but not limited to collecting blood samples, performing bedside lab testing and processing body fluids from patients. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MD Anderson) and Texas Children's (TC) announced a new collaboration on February 19, 2025. The collaborative operations and patient care are anticipated to launch in early 2026. This advertised position is within the scope of the new collaboration and will not continue at MD Anderson beyond 12/31/25. Opportunity to continue in this role at TC may be offered by TC. Candidates will have the option to discuss the impact of the collaboration with Human Resources professionals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of a MD Anderson phlebotomy internship or six months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory
• With preferred education, only three months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory required

Nice To Haves

• Associate's Degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician Program or completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program
• One year of phlebotomy experience in Pediatrics

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy procedures on patients
• Demonstrates competency via direct observation and assessment for Arterial Punctures and Isolation Room Procedures and Venipunctures, including early morning blood collections, STATs, Critically Timed, and Routine draws
• Identifies patient and collects the correct specimens
• Maintains specimen integrity by collecting and transporting specimens in a timely manner
• Completes records and files as appropriate
• Telephone triage
• Other duties as assigned
