The Phlebotomist position at Austin Regional Clinic involves obtaining blood specimens from patients of all ages using various collection methods. The role requires adherence to laboratory policies and procedures while ensuring compliance and confidentiality. The phlebotomist will also be responsible for processing orders and specimens, maintaining a clean laboratory environment, and providing excellent customer service.

  • Collects laboratory specimens from patients of all ages, including those with infectious diseases.
  • Processes laboratory orders and specimens according to protocol.
  • Demonstrates appropriate telephone etiquette.
  • Utilizes computer information systems for data entry and management.
  • Adheres to organization and governmental standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Performs clerical duties as needed.
  • Promotes professional customer service in all interactions.
  • Maintains regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows core competencies set forth by the company.
  • Works holiday shifts as required by company policy.
  • Prioritizes workload to efficiently provide providers with necessary information.
  • Performs specimen collection according to requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety collection devices and follows universal precautions.
  • Adheres to patient confidentiality policy.
  • Initiates assistance to co-workers and customers as needed.
  • Complies with laboratory ordering and billing compliance.
  • Assists with training new employees/students.
  • Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and assists with storage.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Reports complaints/problems to supervisor or person in charge.
  • May be required to flex to other clinics.
  • Performs waived testing and resulting with supervisory discretion.
  • Checks laboratory appointment schedule daily for orders.
  • Responsible for ensuring draw area is restocked and sharps containers/biohazard trash containers are emptied.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of phlebotomy class or at least one year of phlebotomy experience required.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal & problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to engage others, listen and adapt response to meet others' needs.
  • Ability to align own actions with those of other team members committed to common goals.
  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
