About The Position

A Phlebotomist is a technical/paraprofessional who works in the medical field and specializes in blood draws. These paraprofessionals assist healthcare providers in treating patients. Community Practice Medicine, housed within the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado, is seeking trained medical professionals to join our growing team. Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Completion of phlebotomy training program.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross healthcare provider-level CPR certification.
Maintains all required licensures and certifications for the position.
Must be able to work in-person.
Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.
Strong organizational and personal skills
Highly organized and detail-oriented to interact with patients in a caring manner and to stay on schedule.
Effectively communicate with patients during check-in and the blood draw.
High customer service skills to help calm patients and ensure a peaceful environment.

Nice To Haves

One (1) year of experience as a phlebotomist.
Certified Phlebotomist (CPT).
EPIC and Kronos experience.
Experience with MS Office: Outlook, PowerPoint, Word.

Responsibilities

Checks patient identification and test requisitions, and reports discrepancies.
Helps patients or donors relax by explaining their work and sampling procedures.
Finds the best vein for venipuncture and the correct needle size and location for each draw.
Obtains blood samples through venipunctures and finger sticks.
Sanitizes the lab area and supplies, such as needles, gloves, and specimen containers.
Labels and stores samples and prepares them for laboratory testing.
Tracks collected blood to the lab and delivers samples to other departments for analysis.
Maintains specimen integrity by following aseptic techniques, department procedures, and isolation procedures.
Accurately rooms patients, obtains & records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care.
Maintains patient confidentiality, written and verbal.
Communicates effectively and in an attentive manner with every patient encounter.
Verifies patient’s understanding of the purpose of the visit.
Provides patient care in a safe, comfortable, and private environment.
Cleans exam rooms and other patient care areas between each patient
Maintains work areas, exam rooms, supplies, equipment, medications, and immunizations.
Documents work processes as required.
Ensures mistakes or inconsistencies in medical records are corrected to reduce/eliminate errors.
Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
