Requirements

• BLS certification or obtain within six months of hire strongly recommended
• Preferred certification in phlebotomy
• 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience in all areas
• Computer skills are required

• Certification in DOT collections

Responsibilities

• Phlebotomy experience in all areas (geriatric, pediatric, neonate, routine, heel sticks, finger sticks)
• Collection of urine/blood drug screens - chain of custody
• Responsible for daily routine duties in lab as outlined
• Must be flexible for scheduling purposes
• Assure that services are provided in a manner consistent with Ohio County Hospital policies and procedures
• Exhibit positive human relations
• Follow laboratory's procedures for specimen collection, handling, processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results
• Perform only those waived tests that are approved by Lab Director
• Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities performed
• Identify problems with specimen collection that may adversely affect test results and correct or notify supervisor
• Maintain a safe work environment
• Maintain specimen collection area and equipment and collection trays in a clean orderly manner
• Contribute to the efficient operations of the laboratory
• Travel offsite to collect lab specimens on occasion
• Responsible for data entry of specimens into the hospital computer system
• Communicate with Laboratory Manager or Supervisor on important matters
• Attend 75% of department staff meetings and 100% of mandatory meetings
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA
• Establish good rapport with physicians and other hospital departments
• Supervise laboratory students and perform management duties in absence of Manager/Supervisor
