About The Position

Join the Phlebotomy Team at SRHS-Mary Black Campus! As a phlebotomist, no two days are ever the same in our energetic Phlebotomy Lab. You will work with patients of all ages and provide a variety of different tasks as assigned, playing a vital role in delivering high quality healthcare to our community. Performs venipuncture and collects other specimens for laboratory testing. Label specimen containers accurately, deliver to proper destination in a timely manner and perform order entry duties as required. Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric. Compliance: understands and complies with the Standards of Behavior and department policies, procedures and regulations.

Requirements

• HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
• The skill to draw an average of 7 patients per hour within the first 90 days of employment.
• Proficient in the use of Laboratory Information System within the first 90 days of employment.
• Must be ASCP eligible.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for procurement and distribution of specimens (blood, urine, etc.), computer data entry and operation of computer equipment.
• Must be able to provide and understand at the bedside the specific communication and collection needs of patients ranging in age from neonate-birth to geriatric.
• Process and receive specimens for the technical staff.
• Prepare send out specimens for reference testing.
• Answer incoming calls for the laboratory.
• Monitor phlebotomy supply inventory and rotate supplies as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information.
• Requires working irregular/flexible hours.
• Must have dependable transportation (including inclement weather).
• Must be able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position.
• Must be able to withstand constant standing, walking, stooping and bending.
• Must be able to respond calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
• Must be able to work as a team member and interact positively with others.
• Must be able to work at optimum speed with accuracy and efficiency.
• Must be able to take directions and respond quickly and efficiently.
• Moderate lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
• Position includes moderate chemical exposure.
• Sensitive touch for locating veins, manual dexterity and coordination required for drawing blood.
• Vision requirements: must be able to pass a color vision test.
• Hearing: within normal range required in daily work.
