About The Position

The LSBME Phlebotomist is responsible for performing a various of venipuncture techniques to collect blood specimens from patients of all age groups. Individuals performing in this job role are responsible for transcribing laboratory orders from outside providers, and for receiving, processing, transporting, and distributing all laboratory specimens. This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification.
• LSBME Phlebotomist License.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and skin puncture in accordance with department SOP.
• Adheres to SOP in the use of handheld devices for specimen collection for patient.
• Monitors collection list and document status of outstanding collections where specimens are not collected.
• Ensures that STAT specimens are delivered to the Lab within 15 minutes of collection or pick up.
• Ensures that specimens are updated to receive status and correct data is reflected in terms of collect date/time and receipt date/time.
• Delivers to the appropriate Lab Section immediately upon receipt.
• Communicates complaints or problems to department supervisor.
• Collects data for quality assurance program as outlined by department SOP or instruction by department supervisor.
• Maintains thorough and neat documentation.
