The position is responsible for performing all the duties of a phlebotomist, which includes specimen collection, specimen receiving, and specimen referrals. The role requires meeting the expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies, which include being a Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. The individual must ensure that the company philosophy and core values are evident in the service delivered to customers. Additionally, the role involves taking responsibility for seeking and achieving professional growth and continued education, assuring the quality of work performed by all associates, and coordinating services to customers in a manner that provides customer satisfaction and cost-efficient operations. Compliance with CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, infection control, safety, and other regulatory standards, including the privacy and security of health information (PHI), is essential. The phlebotomist must maintain the collection tray/container/bag and working area in a neat and sanitary condition and restock as necessary. Responsibilities also include the procurement of supplies for the department in cooperation with the team lead, performing all duties of a phlebotomist, preparing specimens for referral to outside labs, and ensuring that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection to maintain specimen integrity. Good communication skills are necessary for interacting competently with customers, patients, family members, nurses, physicians, clients, and co-workers. The role also involves operating the laboratory computer system to document specimen information, patient registration, order entry, collection lists, and other assigned tasks. Other related duties may include stand-by/on-call, inventory, special projects, cross-training, and completing associate performance evaluations and annual competency assessments in a timely manner.
