Requirements

  • Minimum Education: High school graduation or equivalent required; successful completion of a phlebotomy program preferred.
  • Minimum Work Experience: One year of full time experience preferred.
  • Certifications: PBT(ASCP) required or eligible (to be obtained within 12 months of employment).
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire or within 30 days of start date and maintain certification throughout employment. This must be obtained prior to providing patient care.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Practices the profession of phlebotomy in the area(s) of assigned responsibility according to accepted standards of practice as outlined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CLIA ’88, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and other regulatory agencies as appropriate, and according to the approved policies and procedures of the organization, department, and/or the laboratory Medical Director.
  • Participates in and supports a process to measure, assess, and performance improvement in areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Performs phlebotomy and waived testing procedures in assigned areas of the laboratory, clinics, outreach facilities, health fairs, and home-bound patient locations optimizing the efficiency and quality of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory procedures.
