JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: Monday - Friday: 9:00a - 5:30p Summary of the Job: Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or capillary puncture from adult, pediatric and neonatal patients employing proper patient identification and infection control measures. Performs chain of custody drug screen collections. Accurately performs waived and/or moderate complexity testing using appropriate method and/or instruments. Enters test requests into the laboratory computer system. Performs other support duties such as answering the phone, handling questions from medical/hospital staff, ordering supplies, and investigating discrepant patient orders. Requirements

  • Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience preferred, but will accept candidate requiring in-house training.
  • Current Louisiana license as a Laboratory Assistant or must obtain within 12 months. License can be applied for upon verification of competency for testing to be performed.
  • Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.
  • Must possess good physical health.
  • Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.
  • Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
  • Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
