About The Position

The laboratories of IU Health offer comprehensive laboratory services, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and perform over 19 million tests annually. These services are provided to IU Health, as well as hospitals and physicians nationwide. The Phlebotomist Lab Assistant I provides general laboratory services, including specimen collection via routine venipuncture, order entry, blood component preparation, and pre-analytic specimen processing. The role also involves clerical tasks such as entering orders, answering phone calls, and managing faxes. The incumbent may also be responsible for patient and specimen registration and specimen delivery.

Requirements

  • HS grad or GED Equivalent
  • Proven understanding of computers
  • Telephone skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time
  • May require a valid Indiana Operators license and a good driving history for the last three years
  • May require an understanding of the traffic laws in the State of Indiana

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science

Responsibilities

  • Provide general laboratory services
  • Perform specimen collection using routine venipuncture
