About The Position

The position involves performing a variety of duties in specimen procurement, processing, and other areas, functioning in both on- and off-site service areas. The role may require working any part of a 24-hour period and accepting on-call responsibilities. The employee may also perform occasional in-charge duties in the absence of an immediate supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Less than 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician - ASCP upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Life Support upon hire preferred.
  • Medical Terminology upon hire preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Program upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of duties at progressively greater skill levels under varying degrees of supervision.
  • Record results and may operate point of care laboratory instruments.
  • Perform quality control and instrument check procedures and maintain related records.
  • Transcribe orders and receive specimens into the laboratory.
  • Process specimens, deliver specimens to testing locations, store specimens for future analysis, and dispose of specimens.
  • Receive and transport supplies, equipment, reports, and specimens between the laboratory and other health care locations.
  • Collect specimens as directed using appropriate or specified equipment.
  • Enter or retrieve data from established computer files.
  • Provide complete and accurate instructions to patients and other customers of the laboratory.
  • Review physician orders for supporting documentation.
  • Resolve billing problems and/or receive insurance updates.
  • Answer telephones, route callers, take messages, and provide routine information to callers.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
  • Assess and interpret patient age-specific data and provide appropriate, age-specific treatment.
  • Provide direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Comply with all applicable safety regulations and report actual and potential errors.
  • Participate in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintain established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participate in educational programs and inservice meetings.
  • Maintain required records, reports, and statistics as directed.
  • Provide outstanding service to all customers and foster teamwork.
