About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of this role is to perform specimen collection and processing of blood and body fluids, for testing and analyzing , to assist with medical decision making. The Phlebotomist III provides daily support with regards to specimen processing and laboratory policy and procedure needs. The Phlebotomist III is responsible for monitoring and maintaining quality control and infection prevention practices within the designated laboratory area, serving as the technical expert for all specimen collections, and trains clinical personnel in venipuncture specimen collections, laboratory workflows, and quality control education. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversight of the laboratory operations and inventory management, in partnership with Clinic Leads and Clinical Operations Director. Follows standard patient identification, infection control, and specimen collection practices. Adheres to any clinic protocols for specimen ordering and processing. Provides care to patients scheduled on the Clinical Services/Lab schedules. Venipuncture specimen collection and processing for send out to reference laboratories. Fingerstick blood and urine specimen point of care CLIA waived processing and timely documentation. Escalating abnormal and critical results to clinical staff or provider as soon as identified . Assist clinical staff with difficult patient sticks. Cleaning and stocking laboratory and clinic areas that stock specimen collection supplies. Monitor and respond to EHR messaging, and voicemails timely . Promotes teamwork and participates in process improvement work. Actively embraces and supports divisional and organizational initiatives. Serves as a back-up for clinical team members as needed. Performs additional duties as assigned to partner in meeting clinic needs. Requirements

  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications .
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory safety and infections control policies
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory equipment
  • High school diploma
  • 2-3 years of phlebotomy experience in an ambulatory setting
  • CNA, CMA, or Phlebotomy certificate
  • Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish speaking skills preferred.
  • Graduate from an accredited phlebotomist program
