About the position

The Phlebotomist II position in Mechanicsville, VA, is a full-time role that operates Monday to Friday with rotational weekends from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The position involves collecting specimens according to established procedures, administering oral solutions, and processing specimens. The role requires effective communication and data entry skills, as well as compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Collect specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens and biometric screenings.
  • Administer oral solutions according to established training.
  • Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders using lab technology systems.
  • Navigate a computer and accurately enter data.
  • Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required.
  • Process specimens including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and preparing for transport.
  • Perform non-patient facing duties such as inventory management, sanitizing, filing, and answering phones.
  • Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data.
  • Maintain phlebotomy logs in a timely manner.
  • Complete online and in-person training courses timely.

Requirements

  • Three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • Flexible availability based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Medical training as a medical assistant or paramedic.
  • Phlebotomy certification (preferred in California, Nevada, and Washington).
