The Phlebotomist II is responsible for training and performing the functions of drawing venous and micro blood specimens from in-patients and out-patients, transporting specimens and tests to the laboratory. Responsible for performing standard laboratory venipuncture procedures for assigned patients. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. A Brief Overview The Phlebotomist II is responsible for training and performing the functions of drawing venous and micro blood specimens from in-patients and out-patients, transporting specimens and tests to the laboratory. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Phlebotomy 0-1 years
  • Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully performing venipuncture without requiring support and instruction from others.
  • Proficient in use of basic office equipment and computers; multi-line phones; and data entry.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrates problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrates superior customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to organize tasks and maintain control of work flow.
  • Ability to train and educate by setting the example, giving instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and alone, with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to remain focused and productive in stressful situations.
  • Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with frustrated patients, families, staff, and providers.

Responsibilities

  • Trains new hires, students and other associates on all the collection procedures.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and precision in performing procedures.
  • Performs, within acceptable limits, the standard venipuncture procedures in the laboratory.
  • Demonstrates conscientiousness about materials and care of equipment.
  • Maintains organization, accuracy, and precision in stressful circumstances.
  • Ensures that patient care or department related communications are coordinated among all lab associates.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
