The Phlebotomist I position at Octapharma Plasma involves ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while providing high-quality service to donors. The role focuses on maintaining a clean and professional environment, executing venipunctures, and operating automated plasmapheresis machines. The position is essential for the collection of plasma, contributing to the creation of life-saving medicines.

  • Ensure total operation compliance with state and federal regulations (e.g., FDA, OSHA, CLIA, GMP).
  • Maintain high levels of customer service and positive donor experience.
  • Keep the work area clean and professional.
  • Review and confirm donor identification while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Set up and prepare equipment and supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedures.
  • Label units and samples accurately.
  • Execute venipunctures and plasma collection with high standards of quality and safety.
  • Operate automated plasmapheresis machines and respond to alarms and alerts.
  • Monitor donor conditions to ensure comfort and safety.
  • Maintain proper ratios for donor safety and product quality.
  • Handle disposal of biohazardous waste and contaminated equipment.
  • Perform calibration and maintenance of plasmapheresis machines.
  • Report unsafe situations to management.
  • Maintain adequate inventory and replenish supplies.
  • Drive training efficiencies for compliance and timeliness.
  • Troubleshoot machine alarms and perform routine quality checks.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Certification or licensing based on state requirements.
  • Minimum three months' experience in a medical or healthcare environment preferred.
  • Completed documentation of training appropriate for duties before performing independently.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal protocols.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to make accurate and complete documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety regulations and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (speak, read, write).
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
  • Demonstrates consistency and reliability in attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work daytime, evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts.
  • Ability to perform venipunctures.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Additional certifications related to phlebotomy or plasma collection.
