The Phlebotomist I obtains blood and other specimens according to established policies and procedures from any location where patients may be present for laboratory testing. This involves obtaining needed supplies, verifying patient identification, preparing skin sites, and performing venipuncture and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques. The role also includes labeling specimens and transporting them to the laboratory for analysis. This position works independently and as part of a team, performing clerical and/or computer duties associated with the laboratory, and providing timely specimen collection and routing of laboratory specimens. The Phlebotomist I maintains professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians. Duties may vary by assigned area and/or shift.
