About The Position

This Phlebotomist I position is a commitment to service, teamwork, and accountability, seeking reliable, patient-focused team players who enjoy a fast-paced work environment, supporting coworkers, and upholding OSF’s standard of respectful, high-quality care. The Phlebotomist I obtains blood and other specimens according to established policies and procedures from any location where patients may be present for laboratory testing. This involves obtaining needed supplies, verifying patient identification, preparing skin sites, and performing venipuncture and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques. The role also includes labeling specimens and transporting them to the laboratory for analysis. This position works independently and as part of a team, performing clerical and/or computer duties associated with the laboratory, and providing timely specimen collection and routing of laboratory specimens. The Phlebotomist I maintains professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians. Duties may vary by assigned area and/or shift.

Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented

Nice To Haves

  • CPR Certification through the American Heart Association
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT)
  • 6 months in a team orientated environment or customer service role
  • Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program OR 3 months’ full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent
  • Experience working with an electronic medical record system, such as Epic
  • Maintain composure while working under pressure; ability to perform job duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions
  • Positive, professional attitude and demeanor

Responsibilities
